Warsaw Tramways, the municipal operator of the tramway system in Warsaw, has selected Hyundai Rotem to deliver the 213 new low-floor trams. The South Korean manufacturer submitted a bid of Zlotys 1.85bn (around EUR 430 million). Deliveries are scheduled to begin 22 months after signing the contract. All vehicles in the base order must be delivered by October 2022.
The procurement to supply 213 trams was announced in September 2018. Four other offers were received. Siemens and CAF sent empty envelopes. Warsaw Tramways rejected an offer from a consortium of Stadler Poland and Solaris because the proposed delivery timeline did not satisfy its requirements while the bid from Pesa exceeded the budget for the order.
Warsaw Tramways abandoned a previous tender for 213 trams in August 2017 after the highest-scoring bid, which came from Škoda Transportation, exceeded the operator’s budget.
