UITP European Union Committee
As the prime advocate and promoter of public transport, UITP works to mobilise political will. We are actively engaged with a number of key stakeholders, including the European institutions and national and local government in Central and Eastern Europe. At the EU level, the main advocacy mechanism of UITP is the UITP European Union Committee. The objective of the Committee is to represent the interests of European public transport undertakings in relation to the European institutions. The main tasks of the Committee are to:
- monitor legislation and provide Committee members with the latest and detailed information regarding all European policy developments and proposals which could have an impact on their activities,
- prepare EU Committee positions on European questions and issues which are of importance for the sector and for the members,
- conduct lobbying activities and represent the common interests of members in relation to the European institutions,
- assist and advise members concerning all aspects of European policies relating to the public transport sector and their own activities.
The current EU Committe Chair is Mr. Ulrich WEBER, Head of Staff Unit Funding/EU Affairs, at Stuttgarter Strassenbahnen (SSB).
